Ludlow is often called "the perfect historic town". Situated on the River Teme in the outstanding countryside of the Welsh Marches, its medieval street pattern survives almost intact, along with many ancient properties including a magnificent ruined castle and one of the largest parish churches in England. There are over 500 listed buildings in the town.

There are many good restaurants and pubs in Ludlow, including 2 with Michelin stars. In September Ludlow hosts the Ludlow & Marches Food & Drink Festival, a delicious showcase of the best food & drink for the area. Ludlow Spring Festival is held in the castle and "Celebrates great beers, bangers, bread, music and more ". Ludlow Festival is held in the summer every year, its center-piece is the open air Shakespeare production in the beautiful surroundings of the castle.
